Co-Founder, Merge VR
Andrew Trickett is the Co-Founder of Merge Labs, Inc., headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. In charge of strategic planning for the technology-based startup, Trickett oversees business development, operations, contract negotiations, and product management to bring the Merge Platform to market. He has a strong history of operating, evaluating and advising tech startups, and working with investor groups. Prior to Merge, Trickett co-founded and managed all revenue generation activities at startup Virtual Alert, which enjoyed a successful exit when purchased by a strategic buyer. He was a partner at Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman). His experience also includes strategic alliance and business development at Trilogy Software. He is a member of the selection committee of the South Texas RCIC, which reviews regional applicants for the Texas Emerging Technology Fund. Trickett holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a BBA from the University of Texas.
CEO, Baobab Studios
Maureen has held leadership roles in film, gaming and the consumer web. She was most recently vice president of games at Zynga, where she oversaw three game studios, including the FarmVille sequels, which contributed to 40 percent of the company’s revenues. Previously, she worked on Pixar's “Toy Story 3” film and at eBay in product management and UI design. Her most recent collaboration, “The Dam Keeper,” directed by Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo, was nominated for the 2015 Oscar Best Animated Short. She received her undergraduate degree in an interdisciplinary program in computer science, art and psychology from Stanford University graduating Phi Beta Kappa and earned her master’s degree in business from Harvard University.
Senior Analyst, The Diffusion Group (TDG)
Joel Espelien is an accomplished strategist and mobile entrepreneur who regularly advises companies on new business initiatives, growth strategies, corporate partnerships and VC financing, ecosystems and developer programs, standards initiatives and value-chain positioning.
Prior to TDG, Joel was a senior executive at PacketVideo Corporation, the first company to publicly demonstrate live video streaming to a mobile phone. Joel joined PV as one of its first employees in 1999 and until December 2012, held senior executive positions in business development, corporate strategy, legal affairs and general management. In addition to his work at TDG, Joel is an active entrepreneur, angel investor, mentor and advisor in the start-up community. Joel is a licensed attorney in California and Washington.
Joel graduated from St. Olaf College with degrees in Political Science, Spanish and German and holds a JD/LLM in International and Comparative Law from Duke University School of Law. Joel is bilingual in English and Spanish and lives on Mercer Island, Washington with his wife and three sons.
